Centro Histórico Tour

EXPLORE MEXICO CITY’S most vibrant neighborhood, Centro Histórico!

Instead of exploring Centro Histórico with a guidebook — why not be guided by someone who knows every inch of what is arguably one of the most rich and complex landmarks in Mexico City? As you walk these celebrated streets, your neighborly Mensch will take you from black and white into full, vibrant color. Along the way, you can enjoy churros and tacos loved by locals.

What will we do?

Few places are as exhilarating and fascinating as Mexico City's Centro Histórico.

Just walk a few blocks here, and you´ll dive headfirst into a dizzying whirlwind of centuries-old history, where cultures collide and mingle in a mind-bending and mesmerizing way. Mexico City isn’t just a city; it's a city built on top of a city, built on top of a lake.

This place is a paradox: it sinks, it tilts, it reinvents itself constantly but never loses its edge. Its streets and buildings have hosted a parade of diverse cultures, each leaving an indelible mark and adding to the city’s electric vibe.

Our tour delves into these layered histories, offering an exclusive peek into the past that’s only accessible through the stories etched into the very fabric of its landmarks. We’ll pull back the layers on Art Nouveau icons, a surreal mural inspired by the masters, the oldest elevator in all of Mexico fit for a dictator, and the many saints of Mexican Catholicism.

And we will eat: churros from one of CDMX’s most storied — and arguably the best — churreria, tacos from a taqueria that Anthony Bourdain made famous, and pastries representing an essential part of Mexican life.

Together, we'll uncover what makes this place vibrate with an energy building for centuries. You’ll leave this tour feeling full of history in body and mind.

Looking for a Jewish tour in Mexico City? You can extend your experience with a one-hour Jewish heritage tour exploring the historic Jewish community of the Centro Histórico, including early migration stories and a visit to the historic Justo Sierra synagogue.

FAQ’s:

  • The tour lasts about 3 hours. It’s a walking experience through the heart of Centro Histórico, blending history, architecture, and food at an easy pace.

  • On this tour, we will definitely have various snacks but we don’t consider it a food tour like our CDMX Local Taco Tour. We’d suggest having a hearty breakfast. During the tour, we will sample iconic bites like churros from one of the city’s most legendary churrerías, tacos from a taquería made famous by Anthony Bourdain, and a pastry that’s an essential part of Mexican daily life.

  • We can’t give away our best kept secrets but we can promise that you’ll explore Mexico City’s historic downtown — a UNESCO World Heritage site — uncovering hidden architectural gems, murals, and landmarks that tell the story of how the city has evolved over centuries. Expect stops that include Art Nouveau buildings, the oldest elevator in Mexico, and murals inspired by Diego Rivera and his students.
